AFCON 2019: Ghana returns to Ismailia for round 16 clash after topping group F

The Black Stars of Ghana will return to their camping base in Ismailia for the round of 16 after emerging as winners of Group F at the end of the preliminary stage of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

The four-time AFCON winners stepped up to win their final group match against the Djurtus of Guinea Bissau after drawing all their first two matches.

A conniving 2-0 win over Guinea Bissau ensured that they leapfrogged defending champions Cameroon who went into the last group match on top of the standings.

The Indomitable Lions failed to find a way past the Squirrels of Benin on Tuesday afternoon and had to settle for a goalless draw at the Ismailia Stadium.

Per the format of the competition, the winners of Group F will play their match in Ismailia. What that means is that Ghana who lodged in Ismailia for their first two group matches will have to return from Suez to face the runners-up from Group E.

Though the Black Stars have to wait until the final group E matches are played this evening to know their opponent, it has been confirmed that the round of 16 fixture will be played on July 8, 2019.
