AFCON 2019: Ghana will not underrate Tunisia – Jonathan Mensah

Published on: 07 July 2019

Ghanaian International Jonathan Mensah has stressed that the Black Stars will not underrate the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia when the two clash on Monday for the round of 16 tie of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

The West African country is chasing a 5th AFCON title after failing to conquer the continent in the past 37 years. Having progressed from Group F, they are set to play Tunisia tomorrow to fight for a spot in the last 8 of the tournament.

Speaking at a pre-match conference on Sunday ahead of the match, Jonathan Mensah has indicated that there have been a lot of surprises in this tournament and hence the Black Stars will not make the mistake of underrating their opponent.

“We have seen the surprises in the tournament and we don’t have to underrate any team”, the Columbus Crew center-back said.

Jonathan Mensah missed Ghana’s final group game against Guinea-Bissau after picking up an injury in the team’s second match against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.

He has now been declared fit and will be available for Selection tomorrow if Coach James Kwesi Appiah decides to include him in his match day squad.

The round of 16 match between Ghana and Tunisia will be played at the Ismailia Stadium tomorrow at 19:00GMT.
