AFCON 2019: Kwesi Appiah insists past glory against Tunisia does not matter ahead of round 16 clash

Ahead of Ghana’s round of 16 match against the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia, Black Stars head coach James Kwesi Appiah has stressed that past glory will not have any impact of the outcome of the match at the end of the 90 minutes.

The Black Stars have a rich history as far as matches against the Carthage Eagles at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament is concerned. Out of seven meetings between the two countries, Ghana has won 6 and draw 1 which makes Tunisia the weakest opponent for the West African Country.

Asked whether past glory gives Ghana an advantage going into today’s match at a pre-match conference, coach Kwesi Appiah answered, “Football now doesn’t depend on history. You can beat a team yesterday if you beat him yesterday and you meet him today it is a different ball game”.

He added, “And I have total respect for each team so irrespective of how we dealt with them in previous years, it’s a new era and the most important thing is for us to make sure we do the best to get the win”.

Ghana and Tunisia will meet at the Ismailia Stadium for the last round of 16 match of this year’s tournament to fight for a spot in the quarter-finals. Kick off will be at exactly 19:00GMT.
