Head Coach for the Black Stars of Ghana, James Kwesi Appiah has called for attention to be turned to the future of the team following a disappointing exit from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

The West African side fell to a 5-4 defeat to the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia on penalties after playing a one-all draw at the end of 90 minutes plus extra time.

A good team goal completed by attacker Taha Khenissi on the 73rd minute was canceled in the dying minute of the match courtesy an own goal from Rami Bedoui to force the match into extra time.

The Black Stars later went on to lose on penalties after new boy Caleb Ekuban failed to convert his kick.

Speaking in a post-match interview, Coach Kwesi Appiah noted that, “We have to think about the future and take advantage of the experience gained by the players in this competition in order to form a strong team in the next stage”.

He added, “The atmosphere is more than wonderful, everything was available and we found great cooperation from everyone here and there was great facilities and the organization was very excellent”.

The defeat means Ghana has failed at another attempt at winning the prestigious AFCON trophy and will have to wait for another two years which takes the drought to 39 years.
