AFCON 2019: MND Jawula believes Nana Addo’s involvement in Black Stars will motivate team

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Chairman, Alhaji MND Jawula has reiterated that the involvement of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the Black Stars will motivate the national team as they continue their campaign in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

The President’s support for the team in this tournament has been immense even from the time when they were playing the qualifiers. He has time and again affirmed his willingness to make all the necessary provisions for the team to ensure they bring home the AFCON title.

He played a key part when the captaincy issue broke following Coach Kwesi Appiah’s decision to make certain changes. He helped the parties involved to unite and put the team first before departing the shores of the country for their pre-tournament training camp in Dubai.

As if that was not enough, the first gentleman of the land visited the Stars at their team hotel on Tuesday to give them some words of encouragement before they played their opening match against Benin.

Speaking in an interview with Atinka FM on the back of President Nana Addo’s involvement in the team, Mr. MND Jawula stressed that he believes it will go a long way to help the Black Stars throughout the 2019 AFCON.

“The direct involvement of the President will prove very critical to the team's quest to win the trophy”.

“It will send a very clear message to the players that look, the most important person in the land is monitoring you so go to the pitch and sacrifice”.

“That alone is great motivation. It happened under Kwame Nkrumah, Kenneth Kaunda and other African presidents who showed such interest were able to win. I think it will happen for the Stars this time”, the formal GFA Chairman noted.

Ghana will play her second Group F match against defending champions Cameroon at the Ismailia Stadium on Saturday, June 29, 2019. Kick off time is at 17:00GMT.
