AFCON 2023 Qualifiers: Ghana midfielder Salis Abdul Samed to miss CAR game due to injury

Black Stars midfielder Salis Abdul Samed is set to miss Ghana’s crucial game against Central African Republic (CAR) in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers following an injury he sustained at the weekend.

The Ghana international was replaced at half time after picking up an ankle sprain during his RC Lens outfit 3-1 defeat to giants Paris Saint Germain.

Although, the extent of the injury is yet to be known but the midfielder could miss the Black Stars game against Central Africa Republic with ten days left for the international break.

"For him [Salis Abdul Samed], there is has a sprain yes. I don't know the gravity yet, but I know it comes from the action on the first base," Lens manager Franck Haise disclosed after the game.

Spanish international Marco Asensio opened the scoring for PSG on the stroke of first half after connecting from Warren Zaire-Emery pass.

PSG continued their dominance in the game, grabbing their second and third goals respectively through Kylian Mbappé, who found the back of the net in the 52nd and 90th minute marks.

The visitors reduced the deficit in the additional minutes through Morgan Guilavogui as the game ended 3-1 in favour of PSG.

Salis has made three appearances for RC Lens this season. His injury come as a huge blow to the Black Stars as coach Chris Hughton prepares to name his squad for the final round of the AFCON 2023 qualifiers against Central Africa Republic.

Ghana will host Central Africa Republic at the Baba Yara Stadium on Thursday, August 7, 2023.
