AFCON qualifiers: GFA announce Thomas Partey's unavailability for Sudan showdown

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that Thomas Partey will not be available for the Black Stars in the double-header encounter against Sudan in the qualifiers to the next Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

The Arsenal summer signing is one of 23 players that were handed call-ups by Ghana head coach CK Akonnor before the international break.

Expected to arrive in Ghana for the clash against Sudan, Thomas Partey is unable to honour the trip as a result of an injury he picked up last weekend while in action for Arsenal in the 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa.

According to the Ghana FA, Arsenal have officially confirmed that the midfield maestro has sustained a minor sprain in his ankle and will need to continue receiving treatment.

“Arsenal have confirmed that the player picked up a minor sprain in his ankle and would require treatment in London. As a result, Partey, will not travel to Accra for the double header against Sudan as he continues his treatment in North London”, a communique from the GFA has said today.

Due to the unfortunate situation, Ghana will be without the key man tomorrow when the Black Stars host Sudan at the Cape Coast Stadium at 16:00GMT.
