AFCON qualifiers: Journalist bemoans lack of selection criteria in Black Stars

Sports journalist Seidu Adamu has shown discontent with the lack of selection criteria in the current Black Stars squad, pointing fingers at the Ghana FA.

On Thursday, Akonnor released a 29-man squad which sparked huge controversy among stakeholders in the country.

Adamu, who was equally surprised with some names, highlighted the lack of selection criteria.

“Merit brings me to this discussion. Why has the FA failed to get the coach to put up his criteria for selection? If you look at this selection, any technical person can easily say that this country is not focused. Of the 29 players, we have 44% having their debut call-ups,” he told Joy FM.

“This team have played four qualifiers and have two remaining. When you are going into a crucial point, you are having 44% of the squad being debutants. We also have 31% of the players being local. Of that local percentage, only 10% have been in the team before.”

“If you look at remaining players that have been in the team before, only two have had more than 20 caps for the national team. This should tell you that this team is depleted and lack legacy. Only Andre Ayew, Thomas Partey, Jordan Ayew and Kudus are known to be playing at the top level,” he concluded.
