Black Satellites assistant coach, Nii Odartey Lamptey has lauded the fighting spirit of the players following their win against Gambia on Tuesday night.
Ghana's U-20 team secured a resounding 3-1 win over their counterparts at the Accra Sports Stadium after a disappointing draw against Congo in their group opener.
Speaking after the game, the former Ghana international eulogized their players for their determination and credited them for adhering to instructions.
“We were not happy with the draw in our last game so we spoke with the boys and we were ready to go all out today," Lamptey said.
“We told them what is at stake and the opportunity this competition offers them. It’s a platform for young players to market themselves.
He continued, “Being in the national colours is more than anything. As hosts of the tournament, we told the boys we should be determined to win it and I am not surprised today they gave out their best.
“As a footballer when you are playing and you see your home fans at the stadium it makes you happy and I hope on Friday they will be here in their numbers as well," he added.
Goals from Aziz Misibau, Abdul Aziz Issah and Jerry Afriyie ensured the Black Satellites secured their all-important win.
Ghana’s final group stage match against Benin is slated for Saturday, March 15, 2024, at the University of Ghana Stadium.
