Ailing Hamburg axe Labbadia

Published on: 06 November 2018

Hamburg have axed Bruno Labbadia in the wake of Saturday's 1-0 home loss to Bayern Munich, a result that extended their winless start to the season to five games.

Labbadia began his second spell in charge of the club in April 2015 and guided the club to victory the relegation play-offs in 2014/15 while his side finished tenth last term.

Hamburg have only secured one point from their first five Bundesliga matches of this season, results which have led to Labbadia being relieved of his duties.

A statement from the club on Sunday read: "At the beginning of the week, the HSV board will explain who will take over as coach in the future."

Reports suggest the former Hoffenheim boss Markus Gisdol will be named as Hamburg's next manager.

Hamburg have only scored two goals in their first five Bundesliga games and are 16th in the table with only Ingolstadt and Schalke below them.

Hamburg are 2/1 to be relegated this season while Schalke can be backed at 1000/1 to go down and Ingolsdat 1/10.

Labbadia is the second Bundesliga boss to lose his job this season after Werder Bremen's decision to part company with Viktor Skripnik.
