Ajax star Mohammed Kudus congratulates former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan on retirement

Ajax and Black Stars midfielder Mohammed Kudus has paid a glowing tribute to Asamoah Gyan following his retirement from the game.

Gyan hanged his boots after almost two decades with the national team. The 37-year-old announced his retirement during the Annual General Meeting of AfrixemBank on Tuesday, June 20, 2023.

Kudus was on Sunday, June 25, 2023, adjudged the 2023 Footballer of the Year at the Ghana Football Awards which was presented by Asamoah Gyan.

After receiving the award, Kudus, who beat off competition from Genk winger Joseph Paintsil and RC Lens star Abdul Samed Salis congratulated Gyan on his retirement.

“I would like to use this opportunity to congratulate Baby Jet on his retirement, he’s being a big inspiration to me and all my guys over here. I wish him all the best”

With 51 goals, he holds the record for the most goals scored by a Ghanaian player and is the country's second most-capped player.

He also holds the record as the highest African scorer at the World Cup (6 goals).
