Alaves sporting director Sergio Fernández insists Wakaso remains a key player for the side

Sporting Director for Deportivo Alaves, Sergio Fernández has disclosed that Ghanaian international Mubarak Wakaso is still a key member of the team despite the uncertainty surrounding his future at the club.

The player has been rumored to be on his way out of the club following a change in managers at the tail end of last season. Ahead of the start of the upcoming season, it is unclear whether he will stay on or he will be transferred to another club.

Speaking in a recent interview, Sporting Director for Alaves, Sergio Fernández has noted that the midfield enforcer is still an important player for the Spanish top-flight side.

“There is a lot of summer and season and Wakaso is a very important player for us, renewing his contract or without renewing his contract”, says the Sporting Director.

He is reportedly a transfer target of several European clubs after enjoying a successful campaign with the Ghana Black Stars at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Meanwhile, Mubarak Wakaso has reported to the team's training grounds as they intensify preparations towards the commencement of the 2019/2020 regular season.
