VAR stole the show as Juventus beat Sampdoria 2-1 in Saturday’s lunch match, with both sides being awarded penalties and the visitors having a stoppage-time equaliser ruled out.

Juve boss Massimiliano Allegri doesn’t think either of the penalties awarded by Paolo Valeri should have been awarded, though he says they are decisions that must be accepted.

“They were both granted after using VAR,” Allegri said at his post-match press conference.

“One stood and the other saw the referee change his decision and if the referee says they are penalties then that is that.

“For me, they were not penalties.

“These are subjective decisions that the referee made.”

When asked if his Juventus players were nervous towards the end, Allegri said that they had work to do after what happened away to Atalanta in Bergamo.

“It’s something we have to improve on,” he said, “we are here just three days after Bergamo.

“It can happen, we have to think as a team.”
