Anas exposé has ruined GFA's chances of securing sponsorship - ExCO member Dr Tony Aubynn

A member of the Ghana Football Association [GFA] Executive Council member, Dr Tony Aubyn has blamed Anas Aremeyaw Anas for the lack of sponsorships for the Ghana Premier League and the Division One League.

The Kurt Okraku-led administration has not been able to secure a leading sponsor for the Ghana Premier League and the Division One League when they came to power.

This has led to a lot of backlash from the football fraternity on the current football handlers in Ghana.

However, Dr Aubyn believes the Ghana FA is working tirelessly to ensure sponsorships are secured by the Anas exposé and Covid-19 has made it highly impossible for the country's football governing body to land sponsorship deals.

He added that it has been difficult getting a headline sponsor but getting it would ease the pressure on the clubs.

“It doesn’t work easily like that to get a sponsor. This particular league has got a quiet number of sponsorships though there is no headline sponsor. I am one of those who are keen to ensure we have a headline sponsor because it makes life easier because some clubs are struggling," he told Accra based Starr FM.

“As I said, we have come out of two Covids, the Covid-Anas and the Covid- Covid. These two truncated out league and system. Companies who would like to invest their money in the league will think twice because of the situation. It is not that easy," he added.

It could be remembered that match officials and Ghana FA officials were caught on tape engaging in bribery and corruption in a documentary dubbed 'Number 12' by Anas Aremeyaw Anas in 2018.
