Andre Ayew calls for calm amid recent poor Black Stars performances

Black Stars captain Andre Ayew has appealed for patience from Ghanaians amid the national team's recent struggles.

With just one victory in their last 10 matches across various competitions, including two defeats during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, concerns have been raised about the team's performance.

Following this disappointing run, coach Chris Hughton was relieved of his duties, with former Black Stars player Otto Addo taking over as head coach.

Speaking on "Chasing Gold with Nana Aba," Ayew acknowledged the team's poor form and expressed regret for the recent performances.

"I think we need to remain composed," he said. "A lot has happened, and there's not much to say at the moment."

Having been part of the team for a significant period, Ayew stressed the importance of learning from both successes and failures.

"We cannot ignore the fact that our recent results haven't been the best, and we apologize for that," he added. "But I believe it's part of the game. Football has its cycles."

Reflecting on Ghana's past successes, Ayew emphasized the need for hard work and patience to restore the team's glory.

"We were dominant for about 10 to 12 years, but now it's someone else's turn. However, we must continue to work harder. We have the talent and the players; it's just a matter of time and a bit of luck for things to turn around."

As Ayew focuses on his current form with Le Havre, he hopes to earn a recall to the national team for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in June.

The Black Stars will face Mali and the Central African Republic.
