Former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan has opened up on his relationship with Andre Ayew, saying the Al Sadd forward is not his friend.

The pair have featured for the national team for the past decade.

They both played in the 2010 and 2014 World Cup in South Africa and Brazil respectively.

However, the relationship got soar when Gyan's captaincy was stripped off and handed over to Ayew ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] in Egypt.

Speaking in an interview, Gyan has reiterated that Ayew is not a friend of his but they get along well despite not having spoken since the last time he played for the Black Stars.

“Andre (Ayew) is not my friend but a teammate, I have my friends that we vibe and all that," he told Kumasi based Wontumi Radio/TV.

"I must confess that I have a good relationship with him, we sometimes talk about boxing matches but he is not my close friend. We have not talked to each other since my absence from the Black Stars”, Gyan added.

Asamoah Gyan last featured for Ghana at the 2019 AFCON where the Black Stars were eliminated from the knockout stage of the tournament.

He has been unattached since leaving Ghana Premier League side Legon Cities after the 2020/21 league season.
