Ghana’s Andre Ayew breathed new life into his West Ham career after scoring his first ever goal for the Hammers on Monday against his former side Swansea City.

Ayew, a 20.5 million pounds record signing from Swansea picked up a thigh injury on his debut against Chelsea back in August and has since struggled to replicate the form that made Slaven Bilic break the bank in the summer to bring him in.

The Ghanaian, who was handed a starting role by manager Slaven Bilic, broke the deadlock in the 16th minute after he followed up on Cheikhou Kouyate’s ball to get his first goal of the season.

The expression on his face after the goal was more of relief than anything else as injury and lack of form has slowed down West Ham United this season.

He was however substituted in the 75th minute after Fernandes came on for him to ensure the Hammers won 4-1 on the day.

Ayew will be delighted he has finally hit the ground running and Ghana coach will hope the goal is a sign of more to come ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations next month.
