Anthony Annan optimistic of Stars World Cup qualification

HJK Helsinki midfield lynchpin, Anthony Annan says he tips Ghana to make it to a fourth straight World Cup despite the Black Stars’ failure to beat the Cranes of Uganda.

The 30-year-old was part of the successful Black Stars team that reached the quarter finals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

And as doubts linger on the minds of football enthusiasts about the team’s chances of making an appearance at another global football festival in Russia, the former Hearts of Oak midfield dynamo says with the players the Black Stars possess, he has no doubt that they can come back stronger in their subsequent matches.

“It’s unfortunate we failed to beat Uganda, but we have five more games left and I feel we can get good results from those matches,” Annan stated on Hot FM.

“We have one of the best players in our ranks on the Continent and I think we only need to support the team through this tough time. We shouldn’t write them off because of the draw against Uganda. We just have to have faith in the team. I believe in the team to make it to Russia so I’m urging every Ghanaian to rally behind the team as well."

The Black Stars will plat the Pharaohs of Egypt on match day two of the qualifiers on 11 November at the Cairo International Stadium.
