Are Chelsea Missing Out? Dutch Coach Speaks of Youngster Bertrand Traore's 'Unprecedented' Talent

Published on: 28 November 2016

Chelsea youngster Bertrand Traore recently complained about being sent out on loan again, after he was part of the first-team at Stamford Bridge last season, and now a Dutch coach who worked closely with the forward at Vitesse Arnhem has spoken of the 21-year-old's'unprecedented' talent.

Traore was overlooked by Antonio Conte in the summer, after participating in pre-season games, and despite five goals to his name, the forward has so far even struggled to win people over in Amsterdam, since moving to Ajax for the duration of the campaign.

For Rob Maas, who was an assistant coach, when a teenage Traore enjoyed an incredible season on loan with Chelsea partner Vitesse in 2014/15, the Burkina Faso prodigypossesses a level of talent he still has vivid memory of.

"When I saw him for the first time, I thought, look at him go dude, he trots like a giraffe," Maas told Algemeen Dagblad as he recalled working with Traore.

"At the first training session he showed unprecedented things. I never really forgot. Dropping him now is not an option because as a 21-year-old he will only learn by playing a lot."

Traore is just one of nearly 40 Chelsea players currently on loan at clubs around the world.

Tammy Abraham, labelled the 'future' at Stamford Bridge by Conte, has been staking his claim for a place in the first-team next season with fine form for Bristol City, while Dominic Solanke has actually remained with the club, but is yet to feature for the first-team this season.
