Arsenal Ace Reveals How Alexis Sanchez's Will to Win Inspires Teammates to Up Their Game

Published on: 03 March 2017

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has revealed how Alexis Sanchez's winning mentality helps to drive the rest of the Arsenal first-team squad to perform better on the pitch.

Sanchez has been far and away the leading light in another faltering campaign for the Gunners, with the striker plundering 20 goals and 17 assists in all competitions for Arsene Wenger's men this term.

The 28-year-old has, on occasion, publically vented his frustration over Arsenal's inability to secure vital victories to keep them in contention for both the Premier League title and in other cup competitions, and Oxlade-Chamberlain told the club's official site just how far Sanchez goes in order to get the best out of his teammates.

He said: You get to know someone over the years and play with them but he's definitely one of those players who will tend to bring out the best in you because he's very demanding on himself and on everyone.

The number of times we come off the pitch and we've won, but he's still not happy with something.

"Alexis is probably one of the strongest ones that will voice his opinions at all times. He is one of those that keeps demanding and trying to bring the best out of you."

Sanchez has been caught on camera throwing a couple of strops since the end of last year as Wenger's charges failed to keep pace with current league leaders Chelsea - the Chile international voicing his displeasure at his team-mates during the 3-3 draw with Bournemouth and sulking under a coat after being substituted in the 4-0 victory over Swansea.

Oxlade-Chamberlain also explained how mad Sanchez got at him over one particular miss against Crystal Palace in February as the Arsenal contract rebel confronted the winger in the changing rooms after the clash.

He added: "The Crystal Palace game for example, obviously we won 2-0 but right at the end of the game he's cut in, passed it to me and then I shot, but Hennessey just about saved it.

The boys were all happy in the dressing room but Alexis came to me in the shower and he's like ˜My friend are you going to score?! Oh no my friend¦ I passed you the ball, you have a cup of tea, you wait¦ and then you shoot!'.

I was just laughing like ˜Yeah, sorry my friend¦' He always wants assists, he wants goals and that's what makes him the player he is. He's always hungry for that and he passes that onto us all. We've got a lot of those sorts of characters in the team!"
