Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker is eager to savour this new season.
The Community Shield will raise the curtain on Mertesacker's seventh and final season as an Arsenal player, with the academy manager job waiting for him on his retirement.
For now the 32-year-old is focusing on crowning his playing career in style.
“I want to make it as enjoyable as possible," Mertesacker told the London Evening Standard. “I enjoy being a player. I enjoy being part of this group. I want to make it a special group.
“I'm even more focused because it's like my chance."
