Arsenal Line Up Dortmund and Atletico Stars Amid Continued Speculation Over Futures of Key Men

Arsenal have reportedly already lined up like-for-like replacements for contract rebels Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil if they fail to sign new deals with the club.

Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann and Borussia Dortmund's Marco Reus are the two big-money signings that the Gunners are set to splash the cash on, according to Squawka, if their star duo decide not to extend their stays at the Emirates.

Sanchez and Ozil have been locked in talks over new deals to remain in north London, but reports have consistently stated that the attacking pair are holding out for in excess of £200,000-a-week contracts - salaries that would make them the highest-paid players at the club, but also break the current wage structure in place at Arsenal.

Germany international Ozil is currently believed to earn the biggest wage at Arsenal, with the playmaker picking up around £140,000-a-week. Of the two, Ozil is the more likely to stay, with Gunners' fans and board members confident that a deal can be struck to keep hold of the 28-year-old, with Ozil's admiration for boss Arsene Wenger seen as a key component in keeping him at the club.

Sanchez, meanwhile, is a different story. The Chile international is alleged to be wanting a wage over £250,000-a-week, and the three-time Premier League champions would be loathe to hand the striker such an extortionate amount of money on a weekly basis.

If either, or both, players decide that their futures lie away from north London, Arsenal would look to prise Griezmann and Reus away from Atletico and Dortmund respectively.

Griezmann has constantly been linked with potential moves to Chelsea and Manchester United in recent months - the latter in particular looking like a more nailed-on transfer throughout the course of the season - while rumours have persisted that Reus could be on his way to Arsenal at some point in the next six to 12 months.

Reus recently returned from a long-term injury lay off to help bolster Dortmund's Bundesliga title push ahead of the enforced winter break on the continent, and his exceptional form since his return - four goals and six assists in just six games - is likely to have piqued Arsenal's interest once again.

Griezmann, meanwhile, could be tempted into working with compatriot Wenger in London, with the 67-year-old Gunners boss revered in his homeland for the work he has conducted in football.

However, with Wenger's own contract set to expire at the end of the season, and with whispers stating that Ozil's and Sanchez's futures could depend on Wenger himself staying at Arsenal, it remains to be seen if Atletico's main striker would opt to depart the Vicente Calderon stadium for Arsenal if Wenger is not in charge upon his arrival.

Executives at the club are said to be fearful over the that Wenger could be considering his future after 20 years in charge as the footballing landscape continues to change.

The ex-Monaco and Nagoya Grampus manager has been criticised throughout the past 10 years for his failure to land another English top flight title, particularly in the wake of Leicester City's unprecedents triumph last term, and it could well be that Wenger has had enough of all the flak and may head off for pastures new himself at the season's end.
