Arsenal Prepare to Battle Liverpool for Signing of Bayer Leverkusen Stopper Bernd Leno

Published on: 10 February 2017

Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has been guilty of a few shaky performances as of late, most notably against Chelsea when he gifted Cesc Fabregas a chance to rub salt into the wound against his former club.

They do have the solid David Ospina available as a deputy, butTransferMarketWebclaim that they are searching for a certain young keeper to build the future around. Bayer Leverkusen stopper Bernd Leno is 24, and man's the sticks for Switzerland.

The Gunners would face competition on two fronts. Inter Milan are a threat, but Premier League rivalsLiverpool are also in the hunt to snap him up.

Loris Karius has endured a difficult few months after being dropped for several howlers, and Simon Mignolet is just not good enough.

Petr Cech is actually only 34-years-old, but has not been close to the kind of form he showed for Chelsea in the red shirt.

A possible fee for Leno is projected at around €22m, which is certainly within Arsene Wenger's price range. However, the Frenchman's own future is clouded in uncertainty, and the likes of Mesut Ozil are said to be influenced by his contract decision.

Would that worry Leno?
