Arsenal Risk Summer Exodus After Failing to Open Contract Talks With England Trio

Published on: 01 March 2017

Arsenal are risking life without English stars Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kieran Gibbs and Jack Wilshere next season after failing to open contract talks with the trio.

All three have less than 18 months remaining on their current deals and, despite Arsene Wenger expressing his desire for them to stay, no progress has been made to tie them down.

According to the London Evening Standard, Wenger's own future could bea determining factor in whether or not the players stay at the club.

The Frenchman labelled themkey components of a "British core" back in 2012, but so long as he keeps quite on his own future, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Gibbs and Wilshere's futures could also remain uncertain.

Wilshere has been on loan at south-coast club Bournemouth this season in a bid to try and prove his fitness and form to his parent club, to a decent level of success - he has started 19 Premier League matches to date, his best return since the2012/13 season.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has made no secret of his frustrations at his lack of regular game time at the Emirates, and rarely gets to play for a full 90 minutes under Wenger.

Gibbs has fallen behind Nacho Monreal in the pecking order this season, and might be inclined to look elsewhere for regular first-team football should he not be given any assurances at Arsenal.

It would seem that with Wenger not 100% guaranteed to be the manager next season, and contract talks stagnant for all three players, Arsenal could well be riskinga summer exodusonce the current campaign concludes.
