Arsenal Set to Rival Liverpool for £15m-Rated England International as Gunners Think Long-Term

Published on: 08 February 2017

Arsenal look to have joined the host of clubs interested in making a surprise summer transfer swoop for cast-out Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart, as they look to secure a long-term replacement for Petr Cech.

Cech will turn 35 at the end of the season, and is already looking a shadow of the colossus who guarded Chelsea's goal for over a decade. With the Czech stopper's powers fading, the Gunners have begun to look around for a replacement who can challenge the likes of David De Gea and Hugo Lloris as the Premier League's best.

MailOnline Sportreport that the north London club are intending to shuffle Cech down to become a vastly experienced backup to mentor their new number one - whoever that may be - as his decline continues.

Hart has already admitted this season that he doesn't expect to play for City again after he was loaned out to Torino over the summer, and even the fact that replacement Claudio Bravo has been dropped for the club's last two games is unlikely to change that sentiment.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for the £15m-rated England international, who attracted heavy criticism for his performances at Euro 2016 after letting a long-range Gareth Bale free kick squirm through his hands and into his goal, as well as failing to do anything resembling goalkeeping when Iceland came calling in the first knockout round.

A shaky start to his Torino campaign saw him muff another tame effort on goal, but his confidence - and performance level - has only improved since then as he looks to put right the mistakes of the past.
