Arsenal Sign Star Duo to New Contracts But Negotiations With Defensive Powerhouse Are Still Ongoing

Arsenal fans will be buoyed by the news of star striker Olivier Giroud and midfield enforcer Francis Coquelin signing contract extensions with the club.

According to France-based media houseRMC Sport,Giroud and Coquelin have signed deals which should take them up to 2019 and 2021 respectively.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger had been insistent on Giroud remaining at the club, but admitted that he did not know how to keep all of his forwards happy with game time.

"How do we keep them all happy? Honestly I don't know," he said before Saturday's win against Stoke City.

"If you have only one striker, the press says 'why don't you buy another striker?' Once you buy one more they say 'how can you keep him happy?'

"We are in a world where you have to know where you want to be and in my case I want Giroud to stay, I want Giroud to extend his contract."

As good as this bit may be to the Arsenal support, you can expect that they will be disappointed at the fact that Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez are yet to sign new deals at the club. The pair have been stalling on negotiations, and only have 18 months remaining on both their deals.

Sanchez has been linked with a move to Chelsea, but with the Chilean in sparkling form this season, fans have been calling for the club to fork out whatever he demands.

Laurent Koscielny, however, is reportedly locked in advanced talks over a new deal which runs until 2020.
