Arsenal Star Rumoured to Be Transfer Target for Struggling Premier League Duo

Arsenal's Kieran Gibbs could be in the middle of a transfer tussle between Swansea City and Crystal Palace in the January transfer window, according to reports.

The Sun claims that the Gunners full-back is on the radar of both struggling Premier League sides ahead of the winter window, opening on January 1.

Gibbs has fallen down the pecking order under Arsene Wenger at the Emirates and, with his contract due to expire in 18 month's time and no new deal on the table, could look to leave Arsenal earlier than expected in search of first-team football.

His potential availability is said to have alerted Swansea and Palace, and the duo could become embroiled in an ugly tug-of-war for the left back as they both bid to pull away from the relegation zone.

Crystal Palace manager Sam Allardyce, who only took charge of the Londoners last Friday, may attempt to bring Gibbs to Selhurst Park with his options at left back not thought to be as strong as other areas of his squad.

Pape Souare is still unable to play after he suffered a horrendous car crash back in September, while Martin Kelly - typically a right back - has often struggled to replicate the form he is capable of showing in an unfamiliar area of the pitch.

Swansea boss Bob Bradley, meanwhile, is severely under the cosh after seeing his side ship 29 goals since he took over from Francesco Guidolin in October.

The American is desperate to strengthen his defensive options, despite already having the likes of Neil Taylor and Ben Kingsley available to him in that position, and views 27-year-old Gibbs as someone who could help the Swans begin the arduous task of staving off relegation from England's top tier. However, with his job reportedly on the line, Bradley may lose out in any possible battle for Gibbs' signature.

Gibbs has had to play second fiddle to Nacho Monreal for much of the past two seasons, with just 40 appearances accrued over the past 18 months for Arsenal. In total, Gibbs had made 220 appearances for the Gunners throughout his career, bagging six goals and 23 assists during that time.
