Arsenal will target Manchester United'sJesse Lingard should the Red Devils continue their hunt for Gunners star Mesut Ozil, according toThe Sun.

United boss Mourinho is reportedly interesting in signing the Germany international, who is yet to sign a new deal with Arsene Wenger's side, and could make a move for Ozil.

However, Arsenal could bite back at the Old Trafford club should such a transfer take place, with Wenger reportedly keen on 23-year-old Lingard.

Despite seemingly not being able to offer Ozil a hefty new deal as of yet, the report claims Arsenal are willing to double Lingard's wages should he make the move to north London.

His total earnings at Arsenalcould reach £120k-a-week, with no deal with United agreed. Lingard is regarded one of England's brightest prospects, and has spent time on loan at clubs like Brighton and Hove Albion, Derby County and Birmingham City.

The contract talks surrounding Ozil and his teammate Alexis Sanchez have distracted from a good few months in the Premier League for Arsenal.

With Arsenal sitting pretty at thetop of the league, speculation surrounding the future of the pair has increased given their impressive form so far this season.

Sanchez, 27, has scored 11 Premier League goals and contributed five assists, whileOzil, 28, has grabbed five strikes and two assists.

The Germany international has a good working relationship with United manager Jose Mourinho, having worked with him during their time at Real Madrid. The pair won the La Liga together, and United would be more than able to offer £300k-a-week in wages should Ozil agree to make the controversial switch.

Ozil's Arsenal will be knocked off the top of the Premier League should Chelsea beat West Brom on Sunday.
