Arsenal's targets: Who is Thomas Partey?

Published on: 06 July 2020

Arsenal are already evaluating some names for the next season and one of the team's wishes is Thomas Partey, of Atletico Madrid. The Ghanaian midfielder is one of the players quoted to reinforce the Gunners for 2020/21 after his affirmation in the Colchoneros with Simeone.

Thomas Partey was born in Ghana in 1993, but started his career at Atletico Madrid. The talent to protect the defense meant that the player was always accompanied to be one of the most promising of the future of the club. To gain more experience, the Colchoneros decided to loan the steering wheel to Mallorca and Almería in 2013 and 2014, respectively.

With more shooting, the midfielder returned to Atlético de Madrid with a new status, but had no space in the starting lineup and was hardly related to the games. In addition, some injuries early in his career complicated Thomas Partey's return. The midfielder spent some time adapting to Simeone's scheme until in 2017/18 he started to win more minutes and managed to establish himself as the team's starter as a more inclined midfielder to the right.

However, in the last year Partey was moved to his original position and managed to perform better. Without being a very offensive player, the Ghanaian managed to defend better and gradually evolved according to football and the changes presented by Atlético over the years.

With that, the path became even more open for the midfielder to grow and establish himself as Atlético's starter. In four seasons at the Colchoneros, Thomas Partey has made 180 appearances with 15 goals, 12 assists and was present in the Europa League wins in 17/18 and UEFA Super Cup in 2018/19.
