Arsene Wenger Set to Drop Arsenal Star Against Hull After Chelsea Horror Show

Published on: 08 February 2017

Arsene Wenger could be set to axe Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech for Saturday's Premier League fixture at home to Hull, according to theDaily Star.

The 34-year-old endured a nightmare game in the 3-1 loss to his former side Chelsea with the Czech shot-stopper gifting Cesc Fabregas the Blues' third goal after a dreadful attempt a clearance.

The Gunners' title challenge is now in tatters, sitting 12 points behind Antonio Conte's high-flying side, and after two defeats on the bounce, including a 2-1 loss to Watford, Wenger needs to make some bold statements.

David Ospina, who has excelled when called upon this season, would be called in as Cech's replacement after the Colombian was designated as the cup keeper for this campaign.

Whether the Gunners number one would get the recall for the Champions League tie away to Bayern Munich next Wednesday remains to be seen. On current form, it would be a resounding no.

Marco Silva's in form Hull side will be keen on claiming another major scalp after dismantling a faltering Liverpool side 2-0 last time out.

The defensive frailties and weak mental spirit have crept back into Arsenal's psyche the past few games and the Tigers will smell the blood of their victims.

However, Hector Bellerin, who suffered a nasty headinjury against Chelsea courtesy of Marcos Alonso's leap for the opening goal, should be passed fit to play.

The 21-year-old will be monitored carefully by doctors from Arsenal and the FA to make sure he is in the correct state to feature on Saturday.

Gabriel Paulista, who like Cech was tortured by Chelsea, has struggled to replace the Spaniard in the wake of his recent absence and fans of the club will be praying Wenger can start plugging the holes in a noticeably leaky backline.
