Asante Kotoko head coach Maxwell Konadu has backed Songne Yacouba to work hard to improve his performance in the 2019/20 Ghana Premier League season whick kicked off on Sunday.

The Burkinabé has struggled to hit form for the Porcupine Warriors and his barren goal scoring continued after his strike in the first half was flagged offside in their 1-0 win over Eleven Wonders at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

A solitary strike from Justice Blay in the 3rd minute of the game handed the Reds all three points at home on Sunday.

"Yacouba is coming from injury. He's doing his best. We're trying to fix his physical and mental situation. We've heard a lot of issues around," Maxwell Konadu told Kickgh.com.

"He's pushing in training but I think he still needs to do more. Every striker must score which he nearly scored unfortunately he was in an offside position. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt and see what happens moving forward," he ended.
