Asante Kotoko head coach Maxwell Konadu has opened up on why he omitted Burkina Faso international Songne Yacouba from the squad to play against Hearts of Oak.

The 28-year-old, who had featured all in five games for the Porcupine Warriors was surprisingly dropped from the 18-man squad for the crucial game at the Accra Sports stadium on Sunday.

Despite his absence, the Reds emerged 2-1 winners against Hearts on match day six of the on-going league.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, coach Maxwell Konadu said, "Sogne Yacouba was dropped because we had issues to settle with the player. We left him because he wasn’t mentally focused."

The 45-year-old also indicated that his absence did not affect the team.

"Not really, because other players gave their all," he added.

The former Black Stars deputy coach also revealed why he handed Kwame Baah another starting spot despite the return of Felix Annan.

"Kwame Baah played well against Ebusua Dwarfs and kept a clean sheet, it’d been unfair to drop him. We are managers and it’s our duty to rotate the team," he said.
