Asante Kotoko fans must be patient with Prosper Narteh Ogum - Ex-club midfielder Emmanuel Gyamfi

Former Asante Kotoko captain, Emmanuel Gyamfi has pleaded with the fans of the club to exercise patience with Prosper Narteh Ogum amidst the team's recent struggles.

The former WAFA gaffer has faced mounting pressure in the latter part of the season, with Asante Kotoko managing only one victory in the league so far in 2024.

The team's form has dipped significantly, suffering six defeats in their last seven league fixtures, leading to tensions between management and supporters.

In a show of discontent, fans disrupted the club's training session on Tuesday, April 16, demanding Ogum's dismissal.

However, Gyamfi, who won the Premier League under Prosper Narteh Ogum during his time at the club believes in the coach's abilities to turn the team's fortunes around.

"Whoever says the coach isn’t good is a liar. I’ve met him before at the local Black Stars camp, I worked with him at Kotoko for a short period before my departure and I know how he likes his team to play. Even after all, he won the league title in his first season with Asante Kotoko," Gyamfi told Ghanasportspage.com.

"His performance was appealing to the football world. That’s why people were clamouring for his second coming to help the club.

"Even though we [Aduana] beat them at Dormaa, their performance on the day showed they meant business, they were up to something so whoever condemns his performance as a coach, I will strongly disagree with that person, it’s rather unfortunate that things haven’t gone the way they wanted it."

When questioned about a potential return to Asante Kotoko, Gyamfi remained tight-lipped about his contractual situation with Aduana Stars but hinted at his openness to enticing offers.

"I can’t expose my contract with Aduana on air but to tell everyone that I am a footballer and whoever comes for me with a good offer and terms, likely, I will join the team," he added.

In closing, Gyamfi appealed to Kotoko supporters for understanding and urged them to stand by the coach during this challenging period, expressing confidence that brighter days lie ahead for the club.

Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko will hope to return to winning ways when they host league leaders, FC Samartex in the Matchday 27 games at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.
