Asante Kotoko pulls out of GHALCA top four tournament

Published on: 22 July 2023

Asante Kotoko has pulled out of the upcoming GHALCA top four tournament which will kick off early next month.

The champions Medeama SC, Aduana Stars, Bechem United, and Asante Kotoko will all compete in this year's top four because they finished first through fourth in the 2022–23 Ghana Premier League.

However, recent events involving the Porcupine Warriors, including the breakup of the board and others, have compelled them to withdraw and focus on those urgent issues in order to get ready for the upcoming season.

GHALCA Top 4 will kick off on 6th August 2023 and end on 13th August 2023.

The Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi will host the 2023 Ghana League Club Association (GHALCA) top-four tournament.

GHALCA boss Kudjoe Fianoo confirmed Asante Kotoko's inability to participate in next month's tournament.

"Yes, it is no more a rumour, we received an official letter from Kotoko yesterday which stated that they can't participate in the tournament," he told Akoma FM.

"And as we are all aware of the current situation of Kotoko, it's not a deliberate decision to sabotage the tournament but a genuine one and we have accepted their request,"
