ASEAN Leagues Wrap: Hanoi go top; Muangthong run continues

Published on: 10 July 2019

Kuala Lumpur: There were plenty of movers and shakers in the leagues across ASEAN in the past week as the domestic competitions in the region continued to excite.

There is a new leader in Vietnam, a Thai heavyweight is easing relegation fears, the table is beginning to take shape in Indonesia and things remain tight at the top in Myanmar, the Philippines and Singapore.

Hanoi FC moved to the top of V.League 1 after goals from Nguyen Van Quyet and Pape Omar Faye – the heroes in the AFC Cup win over Ceres Negros – in a 2-1 victory over Hai Phong on Monday.

The win saw the capital city side take full advantage of Ho Chi Minh City’s 1-0 loss to Viettel FC a day earlier, with the defeat leaving them a point adrift of Hanoi.

At the other end of the table, Sanna Khanh Hoa remain six points from safety after going down 3-1 to Thanh Hoa FC.

Buriram United remain top but saw their lead cut to just a point after a surprise goalless draw at home to bottom side Suphanburi.
