The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has banned Ashanti Gold SC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Emmanuel Frimpong for 8 years and fined Ghc50,000 for match manipulation.
GFA made the announcement on Monday after an extensive investigation into possible match manipulation of a Ghana Premier League game match week 34 involving Ashanti Gold and Inter Allies in July 2021.
According to the verdict released, the Frimpong's actions were at variance with the Ghana Premier League regulations Article 34.5 (d) (i).
"That the Chief Executive Officer of Ashantigold SC Emmanuel Frimpong is banned from taking part in any football-related activity for a period of 96 months in accordance with Article 34.5(d)(i) of the Ghana Premier League Regulations 2019," the verdict reads.
"That a fine of Fifty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc50,000) is imposed on the Chief Executive Officer of Ashantigold SC Emmanuel Frimpong in accordance with Article 34.5(d)(ii) of the Ghana Premier League Regulations 2019."
This decision shall be communicated to FIFA to be given international application in accordance with the GFA Disciplinary Code and FIFA Disciplinary Code considering that a number of players are now playing in clubs outside the jurisdiction of the Ghana Football Association.
The said match saw Ashanti Gold thrashed Inter Allies involving two own goals.
Later, Inter Allies defender Hashmin Musah, who came into the game as a second-half substitute and bagged two own goals, confessed to deliberately putting the ball behind his own goalkeeper with intentions of foiling what he suspected was a standing, fixed 5-0 scoreline.
Inter Allies suffered relegation last season after finishing 18th on the league with 26 points, while Ashanti Gold finished 9th on the standings.
