Ashgold triumph over Kotoko on penalties to lift BK Adusei foundation cup

Obuasi Ashanti Gold has defeated Kumasi Asante Kotoko 4-3 on penalties today to lift the 2019 edition of the BK Adusei foundation memorial cup in honour of the formal board chairman of the Porcupine Warriors.

The two heavyweights of Ghanaian football locked horns at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium this afternoon to battle for glory whiles honouring the memory of BK Adusei who also served as the first Greater Accra Representative for the Porcupine Warriors.

After a thrilling 90 minutes of end to end football action, the Miners who played as the away side silenced the home crowd by stopping the Reds from finding the back of the net.

The Regional rivals had to be separated through the lottery of the shootout.

At the end of a dramatic shootout, it was Ashanti Gold that won the match, scoring four out of six kicks as against Kotoko’s three out of six.

The money that will be accrued from the gate proceeds of today’s match is going into the B. K. Adusei Foundation in aid of old players of Asante Kotoko.

Meanwhile, the two clubs are also using this match to prepare for their various assignments in the second round of the CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup respectively.

Kotoko will be coming up against Etoile du Sahel with Ashanti Gold set to face RS Bekane.
