LaLiga and Atletico Madrid have condemned the disgraceful incident of racial abuse directed at Spanish-Ghanaian footballer Nico Williams, following Athletic Club's clash with Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday.

During the match, which ended with Atletico Madrid securing a 3-1 victory over Athletic Club, Williams was subjected to racial abuse by some Atletico Madrid fans. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation from both the club and the league.

Expressing their stance on the matter, Atletico Madrid issued a statement reaffirming their opposition to racism and hatred.

Similarly, La Liga, in a separate statement, emphasized that there is no place for such abhorrent behavior in sports.

"La Liga vehemently condemns any racist acts and will continue working to eradicate this inexcusable behavior from our sport," read the statement from the league.

This is not the first instance of racial abuse directed at players of darker complexions at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

Atletico Madrid has faced criticism in the past for the mistreatment of players such as Real Madrid's Brazilian forward Vinicius Jr. The club's history of such incidents raises concerns about the effectiveness of measures to address racism in football.

Nico Williams, a talented young forward born in Pamplona to Ghanaian parents, has represented Spain at the international level.
