Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has revealed that Yannick Carrasco doesn't like playing as a right-winger - as reported by Spanish paper Marca.

The 23-year-old Belgian international will not be in Simeone's 18-man squad for their trip to the Canary Islands to face Las Palmas in the Copa del Rey due to injury.

But the paper alsocites 'disagreements overpositioning' as a secondary reason for his exclusion.

Speaking ahead of the Copa del Rey clash, Simeone said: "From the middle of the pitch forward we always look for different solutions or alternatives. We understand that Juan in that position is also an alternative that allows the for the presence of Sime.

"Carrasco doesn't like to play there and we are looking for people who feel the need and ambition to hurt on that side."

Carrasco, a €20m signing from Monaco in 2015, has seen Simeone experiment with Juanfran and Jose Gimenez in his position as a result of the discontent.

Ahead of theround of 16tie, the Atleti coach praised the competition where others have downplayed it's relevance and influence, adding: "The cup is a beautiful competition. There are many interesting teams; Real Sociedad, Villarreal, Sevilla, Athletic ... and obviously Las Palmas."

Los Cholconeros will be hoping to progress after their stuttering league form left them outside of the Champions League places. Four losses in their last 10 games has seen them slip away from Real Madrid and Barcelona, and one point behind fourth-placed Villarreal.
