Atletico Madrid President Labels Manchester United as a 'Small Team' Amid Antoine Griezmann Rumours

Antoine Griezmann is rumoured to be Manchester United's top transfer target, but the Atletico Madrid president, Enrique Cerezo, hasdismissed the Red Devils as a minor threat, as reported by Spanish publicationMarca.


Depending on who you listen to, Griezmann is either subject to a large amount of interest from the 20-time Premier League champions, or the French international is on the verge of signing in a new multi-million pound deal.


Griezmann has scored 72 goals in 138 Atletico appearances, and has been capped 39 times by France.

When president Cerezo was asked about the French star's potential exit by reporters, he responded with: "Manchester United? Small team. I believe in the contracts that people sign, that goes for (Diego) Simeone and Griezmann."


Ateltico bossSimeone said that: "I don't tie anybody down. I simply work in order to continue getting better for the good of the club. He (Griezmann) is in an extraordinary moment. He is working well, he has got back on the score sheet.


"He is currently in great form and it's normal that the top clubs in the world want him. I'm not surprised that those that can afford him are seeking him,"Simone said ofthe speculation surrounding Griezmann's future.

When asked about Sergio Aguero's move from Atletico to Manchester City in 2011, the Atletico chief said that:


"I said on the radio that Aguero was a fool, but he's not a fool, he is one of the best players in the history of football, and I said he was stupid for leaving Atletico. He is a great player and a good friend, I wish him all the luck of the world at Manchester City."
