Atletico Madrid Reassert Interest in Gunners Star as Possible Replacement for Man Utd Target

Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez as a possible replacement for Manchester United target Antoine Griezmann.

The Chile international has been Arsenal's star man this season, scoring 15 goals and contributing eight assists in 24 Premier League appearances, and is yet to sign a new long term deal with the Gunners.

Atletico are preparing for the departure of forward Antoine Griezmann, who has been heavily linked with a move to United, and the La Liga could make a £60m bid to sign Sanchez, according tothe Mirror.

Sanchez's current deal runs out at the end of next season, but if no agreement can be made regarding a new contract then Arsene Wenger's side could be tempted to cash in on one of their most important assets. Arsenal's past two Premier League defeats have not helped the situation, with losses against Watford and Chelsea derailing the north London club's title bid.

United have backed Jose Mourinho in the transfer market during his brief reign at Old Trafford, signing Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Eric Bailly and Zlatan Ibrahimovic last summer, and the manager is said to be an admirer of Griezmann.

Should Griezmann make the move to Old Trafford, then Diego Simeone is eager to sign Sanchez, who was bought by Arsenal in 2014 for £34m. Atletico's squad have faltered in the La Liga title race this season, with the club currently seven points behind leaders Real Madrid. Arsenal's title hopes were all but extinguished on Saturday with a 3-1 loss at Chelsea on Saturday.
