Atletico Madrid have suffered a summer market blow with their FIFA transfer ban being upheld today.

It will mean Chelsea striker Diego Costa will not be returning to Atletico this summer after the Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld the club's transfer ban.

A statement released by the club branded the decision 'unfair', insisting that it represented 'irreparable harm' to the club.

The panel of Efraim Barak, Ulrich Haas and Romano F. Subiotto dismissed the arguments put forth by the club and by the Martens Lawyers legal team.

Although one of those windows was already served last winter, Atletico will not be able to register any new players this summer and will have to wait until January 2018 to do so.
