Atletico Madrid Super Sub Kevin Gameiro Scores Five-Minute Hat-Trick Against Sporting Gijon

Published on: 17 February 2017

Atletico Madrid's Kevin Gameiro produced a devastating five-minute spell of goal scoring, netting a hattrick in the final ten minutes in the 4-1 victory over Sporting Gijon on Saturday afternoon.

The Frenchman was a second-half substitute for Fernando Torres and paid back Diego Simeone's faith by brilliantly securing a crucial three points.

Yannick Carrascoopened the scoring 13 seconds into the second half after a fairly drab first period from the visitors, however, the hosts were back on terms almost instantly.

The Spanish giants took until the 80th minute to finally break down the Gijon rearguard for the second time, but then the floodgates well and truly opened.

Gameiro's offensive prowess took over with a smart brace to add to his crucial first goal.

The Frenchman has been in and out of the side since his arrival in the summer from Sevilla, but this should stand him in good stead for a promising end to the campaign.

Atletico currently sit in fourth place, now four points ahead of Real Sociedad in a bid to clinch Champions League football once again.

The victory was Diego Simeone's first away to Gijon and the Argentine will be pleased with his troops as they now travel to Germany to face Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League in midweek.
