Barcelonaprogressedto the final of the Copa del Rey following their 1-1drawon the night, buta 3-2 win on aggregate, over Atletico Madrid inan unconvincing performanceat the Camp Nou - which saw thehostsfinish the game with nine men.

The Catalan giants struggled in the opening exchanges with the club from the capital controlling the possession and creating the best chances, but Barca punished the travelling side just before half-time as Luis Suarez was able to put breathing space between the two sides.

Madrid responded late-on as KevinGameiro turned in a close-range effort just minutes after skying a penalty to make it anerve-wracking end for the defending champions, but the hosts were able to hold on.

It was an end-to-end start, and the visitors had a great chance to take the lead in the opening five minutesas Koke stormed towards the Barcelona area before playing a well-timed ball toYannick Ferreira Carrasco. But the 23-year-old could only fire his shot towards the hands ofJasper Cillessen - who impressively palmed the attempt away, much to the displeasure of Diego Simeone.

The hosts were praising their 27-year-old goalkeeper again just minuteslaterwhen the Dutch international pulled off a fine doublesave frompoint-blank range as Antoine Griezmann latched onto a inch-perfect free-kick by Koke and headed towards goal, but was only met by another strong palm. The France international tried to convert the rebound, but was smothered by Barca's second-choice custodian.

But just before the break Atletico were made to rue their earlymissed chances.Suarez found the ball at his feet 12 years from goal andtapped home into an empty net following a smart save by Miguel Angel Moya. The 32-year-old could only palm his low-stop into the path of the Uruguay international aftera fizzing shot by Lionel Messi who made space on the edge of the area after great trickery.

The host's night was made tougher 10 minutes into the second-halfas Sergi Roberto received a second yellow card for a reckless challenge on ex-Chelsea defenderFilipe Luis.

The Catalonianswere saved by the linesman less an a minute lateras Griezmanndispatched his effort into the bottom left hand corner of Cillessen's net from a tight angle before beingwronglyruled offside with the replay showing the 25-year-old was level with Gerard Pique.

Both sides were down to 10-men 20 minutes before the end asCarrasco received his marching orders from the referee following an awkward challenge - which saw the Belgium international chop down Jordi Alba from behind after slipping on the turf -leavingthe official seemingly no other option than toissue the former Monaco man with a second yellow card.

10 minutes from timeMessi was just inches awayfrom wrapping up the tie in styleafter hisbeautifully strucklong-range free kick cannoned out from the crossbar. The rebound looped to Suarez, but the striker could not get his headed effort on target.

Straight up the other end andAtletico Madrid hit the woodwork themselves, butGameiro should have donebetter. The 29-year-old was awarded apenalty as Pique brought the France international down in the area, but the right-winger's attempt clipped the top of the bar on its way into the stands.

But the Atletico forward atoned for his miss just two minutes later as he latched onto a low cross by Griezmann and steered his effort into an almost empty net asCillessen had stopped in appeal for the offside flag.

Barcelona goalscorer Suarez will miss the final as theCamp Nouman was forcedto leave the field of play in the dying minutesunder the referee'scommand after the ex-Liverpool mancollided with Koke and received his second caution of the evening.

The late pressure by the visitors was not enoughhowever, and thedefending champions now await the result from the second semi-final on Wednesdaynight-which sees Alaves hostCelta Vigo following a 0-0 stalemate in the first leg.
