Barcelona Interested in Watford Defender After Aleix Vidal's Season-Ending Injury

Published on: 17 February 2017

Barcelona could target on-loan Watford defender Juanfran as a replacement for the injured Aleix Vidal who was ruled out for the remainder of the season, as perAS.

The Spaniard dislocated his ankle in the 6-0 victory over Deportivo Alaves and the Catalans are now desperate for a natural replacement with Sergi Roberto continuing to deputise in the role.

Juanfran, who is yet to make a single appearance for the Hornets in three years, is currently on loan at Deportivo la Coruna.

Signed from Real Betis for a measly £1.5m in 2014, the Spanish full-back has made a positive name for himself in La Liga and Barca are now looking to activate an 'emergency transfer'.

A loophole in the Spanish transfer system allows clubs to make these emergency moves after the January window if they sign players already based in the country.

Luis Enrique's side has seen a bid of £1.7m rejected by Eibar for full-back Ander Capa with the Spanish giants also said to be interested in Venezuelan defender Roberto Rosales, who plays for Malaga.

Watford's owners, the Pozzo family, have clearly stated that Juanfran is not part of their future plans and will be eager to offload the defender.

Deportivo have reportedly agreedon a deal to take the full-back away from Vicarage Road on a permanent deal, so Barca may have to pay the relegation-dwellers a sum in order to sign the player.

After Julian Draxler's brutal torture of Roberto on Tuesday evening, a right-back is without question the most pressing matter at Barca right now.Enrique needs a solution quick, otherwise, his right flank is going to be targeted by all opponents.
