Luis Enrique has claimed that his Barcelona side made too many mistakes during their 3-1 defeat to Manchester City on Tuesday evening.

The Catalans slumped to their first Champions League loss of the season at the Etihad having initiallytaken the lead thanks to a brilliant counter attacking goal scored by Lionel Messi.

City equalised against the run of play just before half time and overran Enrique's team in the second half, as goals from Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne condemned them to defeat.

Speaking in his post match press conference (as quoted by the club'swebsite) the Barcelona manager admitted he was frustrated with his team's error strewn performance despite having made a good start to the match.

He said:"We played a great 40 minutes, with scoring chances, we could have put the game away, we dominated, and we didn't give them any chances to score."

"We made countless errors with possession in the second half, mistakes we do not usually commit.Their second goal came on a foul we could have avoided."

"We had a very clear chance on the play with Andre [Gomes]but we were not fortunate enough to score on it.

"Mistakes really cost you in these games."

The result seemed a long way off for much of the opening 40 minutesas Barcelona dominated the play and whilst Enrique was pleased with the team's first halfperformance, he confessed City were the better side after the interval.

He added:"I think that was one of the best first halves we've played, and on a stage like this and against difficult opponent."

"In the second half we expected to win back control, but it was not to be because they were good and we made errors we do not usually make."

"They have good forwards who hurt us in transition.Perhaps they did not press us as hard as we expected in the beginning. In the second half they were very aggressive, they forced us into more errors than we usually make."

Barcelona remain top of group C, leading second placedCity by two points. They face another tricky away game as they travelto face Celtic in matchday five.

A win would guarantee the Catalansa place in the last 16 of the Champions League but Enrique will be keen for his playersto also seal top spot in the group; thus likely avoiding a tough draw for the next round.

And the boss admitted his team needed to pick themselves up quicklyso they couldfocus on winning their remaining group fixtures.

He said:"You have to get back up after you lose and keep on working. We will try to win the two games we have left."
