Barcelona Set to Appeal 'Laughable' Luis Suarez Red Card in Copa del Rey Clash With Atletico Madrid

Barcelona are set to appeal the red card given to Luis Suarez during their Copa del Rey semi-final second-leg clash with Atletico Madrid.

The striker was sent off for two bookable offences in the 1-1 draw at the Camp Nou on Tuesday evening, and the Daily Mail has now reported that Barcelona want to overturn the decision after being left less-than-impressed by the officiating on show.

Suarez received his second yellow of the night after referee Jesus Gil Manzano had deemed the 29-year-old to have elbowed Koke in the final throes of the encounter, with the man in the middle later writing in his report that Suarez was dismissed "for striking his arm against a rival player in a reckless fashion while contesting the ball."

Suarez later described the incident as "laughable" and claims that he had done nothing wrong as he made an attempt to win the ball cleanly.

He said: "I just turned and jumped. I don't even think it was a foul. I hope we can appeal the decision.

"I'm laughing at the decision. It seems like it was what he wanted. We know how this goes. You could see it coming. The first card was for my first foul of the game and the second card was for nothing."

The Uruguay international had earlier opened the scoring in the clash with Diego Simeone's men, but Kevin Gameiro's goals seven minutes from time set up a frantic end to proceedings. Gamiero's strike came after both sides had been reduced to 10 men, with Sergi Roberto and Yannick Carracso also being sent for early baths for two bookable offences, before Suarez was also dismissed for his challenge.

The Catalan giants have revealed that they will also contest the decision to book Sergio Busquets after the midfielder kicked the ball away in frustration during the encounter, though the Spain international will be free to take part in the Copa del Rey final regardless of whether Barcelona are successful in that particular appeal.

Barcelona will take on Alaves in the final of the domestic cup competition on Saturday May 27 after Edgar Mendez's 82nd-minute goal sent the home side through 1-0 on aggregate against Celta Vigo on Wednesday.
