Barcelona have signed Frenkie de Jong from Ajax in a deal worth an initial €75 million, plus a further €11m in variables.

The midfielder will join the squad at the end of the season and has signed a five-year contract.

De Jong had been a target for a number of top clubs across Europe such as Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City and Bayern Munich.

However, Barca have won the race, and announced the deal with a video on Twitter.

De Jong, 21 graduated from the Ajax academy and recently said he was committed to staying with the club for the remainder of the campaign as they battle to win a first Eredivisie title since 2013-14.

Meanwhile, they will also face Real Madrid in the Champions League round of 16.
