Basic errors deflate Warnock

Published on: 23 September 2018

Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock admitted his team had many too many mistakes in Saturday's 5-0 home drubbing by Manchester City.

After a dull first half-hour, Sergio Aguero broke the deadlock and the visitors then scored goals at regular intervals through Bernardo Silva, Ilkay Gundogan and a Riyad Mahrez brace.

To add to the Bluebirds' woes, Lee Peltier had to be stretchered off the pitch at the start of the second half after injuring his shoulder.

Cardiff are winless after six matches and are 3/10 to be relegated this season, while Huddersfield Town are 4/11 to go down, Newcastle United at 10/3 and Southampton at 4/1.

"We've got to eliminate mistakes if we're to have any chance whatsoever," admitted Warnock.

"I think we did well in the first half-hour. I thought our shape was good and then they scored from our corner kick, and that's how good these teams are.

"We lost our discipline a little bit and we found ourselves 3-0 down from nothing. I thought second half, despite the injury, we did alright. Then, just another mistake at the death made it worse than it should have been.

"We have made mistakes but we're all in it together. All I ask is that they do their best."
