Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes is elated with the signing of Ghanaian defender Jeremie Frimpong in the on-going winter transfer window.

The 20-year-old penned a four-year deal with the club from Scottish champions Celtic after passing his mandatory medical.

Frimpong joined Celtic at the start of last season and won the domestic treble of Scottish Premiership, Cup and League Cup.

"In, Jeremie Frimpong, we have been able to sign a player with a great facility to develop and this again is a forward-looking transfer for Bayer 04," Simon Rolfes told the club's official website.

"He's technically strong, incredibly quick and has the desire to go forwards."

He added, "Over the last year and a half, Jeremie has proved himself at an absolute top club in the physically very challenging Scottish league and in European competition."

"That important experience at Celtic, but above all his footballing ability, make him a very attractive young player."

Eligible to play for the Netherlands, England and Ghana at full international level, Frimpong has thus far turned out for the country of his birth, with whom he is capped up to U20 level.
